Subject:  Meet ‘Born Diva’ Jenna Pascual!
Message:
rom Davao, 22-year-old Jenelye Pigao traveled to Manila to look for her long lost father and to look for an agency that might bring her to Japan. She didn’t find her father and she didn’t find an agency. What she found though was a treasure chest of sort that somehow wiped out all her disappointments in life. She encountered “Born Diva,” was renamed Jenna Pascual and was crowned a diva two weeks ago!

Like the other weekly “Born Diva” winners, Jenna’s professional singing career was spawned out of her family’s financial needs. She started singing when she was 14 years old when she took over the place of her mother as vocalist for the band The Legends. Then she became a member of Frontpage and her most recent group was Cardams. Having financial problems ever since she could remember, becoming a diva in ABS-CBN’s singing contest “Born Diva” has become the most tangible answer to her woes. It was also the first time she took home a fat paycheck with her winning as compared to the R350 per gig she usually gets with her band. But however hard her life was before, she attributes the honing of her singing skills and showmanship to her band experience.

“I study from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. then at night I sing at two restaurants. I go home madaling araw na and sometimes I still rehearse some songs for the following day. Masarap lang when people ask me how I do it kung paano ko napagsasabay ang studies ko and performing. Wonder Woman pala ako noon,” she exclaimed.

It was not a smooth ride though for her singing career. During her sophomore year, the hotel her band was performing in axed them. Without a job to support her mother and her education, she just had to stop studying. Another one of her trials was when she fell in love with a man her mother didn’t approve of. She ran away from home to be with the man she loved. According to her, eloping with someone was her mother’s long time fear. What followed according to her was a disastrous relationship with her mother.

“Ayaw kasi ng mama ko sa guy. Sabi ko naman minsan lang naman ako humingi and it was for my happiness. So I left but I gave her all my money because we were maintaining an apartment before. Ok lang na gabi-gabi akong magtra#!&@ basta kasama ko lang ang lalaking mahal ko,” she said.
She got pregnant, and stopped singing which was financially draining on her part. Her mom then had to moved in with her and her live-in partner. Her problems didn’t stop there because she ended up broken hearted when she broke up with her beau.

“Until now, I don’t want him to see our child and I don’t ask for any support from him,” she said.
For Jenna, “Born Diva” came at the right moment though it was not the reason she went to Manila. Even her joining the contest was filled with twists and problems like a tele-serye.

“When my friend told me about an audition I didn’t have enough money to even get to ABS-CBN. Inutang pa namin yung pamasahe ko. But on the night before the audition, inatake ng asthma ang baby ko and I had to use the money. I cried when that happened. Siguro ayaw ni Lord na sumali ako,” lamented the diva.

But “Born Diva’s” musical researcher Evelyn Zapanta was kind enough to call her for another audition. What she realized was that if she had joined the first audition, she would not have made it. So she was very excited for her second chance.

“After I sang I immediately left because I felt I didn’t do a great job because I was nervous and shaking. I didn’t want to hear them say I didn’t get in. Pero they asked me back in to sing one more time and I passed the audition.”

Next for her to conquer was the makeover phase which she was told about before her audition. This was something she didn’t have qualms with. She simply believed that whatever transformation that would happen would benefit her one way or another. She had her facial moles removed and had liposuction under Dr. John Cenica of the Jancen Cosmetic Surgery.

“During my liposuction, someone remarked that I was lucky to be in ‘Born Diva’ kasi even if I don’t win I got liposuction already which was expensive. Sabi ko raw sana pera na lang so I can save it for my child’s future,” smiled Jeena.

Another moment she could not forget at Jancen’s was the pastor whom Dr. Cenica introduced to her.

She was surprised that he walked towards her and prayed over her which made her cry.

“Ganun yata talaga kapag wala kang pera, you’re always afraid and you always cry…nagulat ako when he told me that I would win the contest. Nahiya tuloy ako sa kasama ko doon kasi he didn’t pray over her. But she also won.”

With regards to her makeover, she expressed much satisfaction.

“Dr. Cenica is really kind and very professional. Magaling siya and happy ako sa results. I was also scheduled to have my breasts enhanced pero wala na kasing time. But they still want me to have them siguro okay lang.”

Dr. John Cenica commented that Jenna’s makeover fitted her perfectly. He added that the makeovers he does to his clients are usually tailor made not only physically but to their personalities too. He makes sure that for whatever purpose, their beauty would really be enhanced!

So what will Jenna do if she wins the grand prize?
