The 2006 Philippine Hip-hop Music Awards went out with a bang as The Premier THX Cinema in Makati City was jam packed with the most popular Filipino urban, hip hop and R&B artists. This year's most anticipated Hip-Hop event of the year was hosted by Iya Villania, Mo Twister, Kat Alano and TonyToni of Magic 89.9FM.

Thirteen categories were presented including a special Pioneer Award / Hall Of Fame which was chosen by Empire Entertainment to pay tribute to the individual who contributed and influenced the local hip hop industry. This year's Pioneer Award went to breakdance wiz JMasta for his contribution of dance skills. Gloc 9 won the prestigious Rap Artist of the Year for a 2nd consecutive year while Jasmine Trias won Best R&B Artist for her song Lose Control, written and arranged by DJ MOD.


Live performances included Stick Figgas, Turbulence Productions, Los Indios Bravos, Nimbuss, Audible MCs, Ginn, Slik N Sly Kane, The Tuesday Troop, DCoy, Karylle, Jasmine Trias, Aikee and Mobbstarr.

A lot of musical numbers were performed in tandem as well such as Krazykyle with Aliya Parcs, Boy2 Quizon with MC Dash, Mike Swift with Artstrong, Mistablaze with Death Threat, Pikaso with Deelete and Gloc9 with Greyhoundz.

Surprises of the night included special appearances by Karl Roy of Kapatid jamming and the humungous shirtless basketball player Alex Crisano dancing on stage with Mike Swift and posse, Andrew E. invited up on stage to do a freestyle rap, and Mistablaze along with a group of over 20 people on stage nearly making the stage collapse for much bouncing.
