Peter Parkher Swings Major Award In Anti-corruption Song Tilt
He is NOT the web-swinging superhero Spiderman but his winning rap composition will definitely put a PERIOD on corruption.
Rapper / songwriter & comedian Peter Parkher snagged the GRAND PRIZE for the First Anti-Corruption Songwriting Competition held last May 12 at the AFP Theater, Camp Aguinaldo beating other seasoned performers including 9th Avenue, Reuben Laurente and R&B princess Kyla.
‘Napakasaya ko at lahat ng ito ay pinagkaloob ng Diyos’ Parkher humbly gushes. ‘Yung composition ko na Mahiya Naman Kayo ay alay ko para sa bayan’.
Peter Parkher’s comedic performance and hard-hitting rap composition ‘Mahiya naman Kayo’ bagged Php 250,000, a trophy and a free trip to the UK courtesy of The British Council. Jungee Marcelo won second place, taking home Php 150,000 and a trophy for his composition ‘Walang Kurap’ while Christine Bendebel (aka Warren D. Christie) placed third winning Php 75,000 and a trophy. Her composition ‘Crossroads’ were interpreted by no less than singer / pianist ISHA, best known with its revival ‘Torpedo’ by Eraserheads and ‘Cherish’ by Madonna. ISHA, also a songwriter, is nominated for ‘Best Song Written for Movie/TV/Stage Play’ for her original ‘Salisi’ - the theme song of the indie film ‘Ilusyon’, in this year’s AWIT AWARDS. The Anti-Corruption Songwriting Competition is a part of the year-long activity of European Commission-Office of the Ombudsman (EC-OMB). With this years theme ‘building a culture of integrity and excellence’, more than 200 entries nationwide were submitted by amateur and professional songwriters. Only 10 composition made it to the finals including Gary Granada ‘Ang Kailangan Gawin’, Mike Villegas ‘Sabay Tayong Magpalaki ng Maganda Ngayon’, Ruben Lopez Jr. ‘I am a shield’, Chona Borromeo ‘Simulan Natin’, Edilberto Reyes ‘Tigilan mo na yan’ and Robert David for ‘Kahit Na’ and ‘Tayo ng Maglingkod sa Bayan’.
Telecast LIVE at People Television Network (NBN 4) hosted by Mr. Arnel Ignacio and Ms. Nanette Inventor marks the 18th Foundation Anniversary of the Office of Ombudsman. The project seeks to inspire, encourage and challenge the wider public to join the OMB in its fight towards curbing graft and corruption. The night is graced by EC-OMB Executives led by no less than the Head of the EC Delegation to the Philippines, Ambassador Johannes de Kok and Honorable Tanodbayan (Ombudsman) Ma. Merceditas N. Gutierrez. The board of jurors for the semi-finals includes KATHA President and multi-awarded songwriter Trina Belamide, OMB Chorale Conductor Raffy Amaranto and Candid Philippines General Manager/Managing Director Allan Fajardo. For the FINAL NIGHT, jurors includes the Director of The British Council Ms. Gil Westaway, Assistant Ombudsman Atty. Raoul Dizon, Sony-BMG A&R Manager Vic Valenciano, legendary and multi-awarded songwriter Mon Del Rosario and Mr. Vehnee Saturno.
