Junior Kilat

The legendary Sigbin of Cebu's lower mythology comes alive with the Philippine's premiere in-your-face dub/reggae band Junior Kilat. Their debut album "Party Pipol Ur On Dub TV from Galaxy Records brings to every island the fresh new flavor of a rarer style of reggae.
Formed in the latter part of the year 2000, Junior Kilat takes their cue from such influences as Lee Scratch Perry, Sly & Robbie, Eek-A-Mouse, Prince Far-I, Yoyoy Villame, MaxSurban and the Teletubbies. With an infectious energy & frontman Budoy Marabiles' antics, the band's live performances have since become very well attended and in demand. Combined with Budoy's wacky RCTV magazine program on small-scale industry called "Ismol Tym" (also produced/directed by Kilat cohort Tiano Evangelista), fans have since associated Cebu's revered mythical figure with the band and their hit single "Original Sigbin." (available on Island Riddims from Galaxy Records).
Compared to simplistic grooves that reggae is known for, Junior Kilat's sound is rich and modern, verging on atmospheric, even. It is a sound that can only be achieved by the collaboration of 8 talented musicians: Budoy Marabiles on vocals, Tiano Evangelista on bass, Archie Ybanez and Jad Dapat on guitars, Gina Pestano on keyboards, Diana Freese on drums, Cleofas Quijano on trombone & Bangin Atienza on turntables.
The album is composed of 12 tracks, sometimes with two versions of one song, differentiating DUB (studio version) versus LIVE, and demonstrating the irreplaceable experience of attending a Junior Kilat gig. One would hope to learn their famed 'psalmo responsorio' on "Agta (Live)" to shout back in one of their performances.
References to pop culture and onomatopoeic lyrics are numerous and humorous, as is the case with K-fyne, which uses the new SMS vernacular.
There's also singing "kling-klang" over the chime of Christmas bells and using old school comic book 'bratatats' and 'bang-bangs'on "Ako si M16." Then there's the ceaseless clicking of tongues after singing "kung di pa lang sala ang magtakla"- in English: if it weren't rude to click my tongue at someone.
A bonus DVD completes the experience with footage of previous performances, a montage music video of K-fyne, and a segment of Ismol
Tym. With a debut like this, there is no doubt that Junior Kilat will be something of a legend in itself.
